The Volleyball Stat Sheet: A Printable Template One Person Can Actually Keep
A volleyball stat sheet is a one-page chart that lets a single scorer track what actually decides youth matches: each player's passing, serving, and attacking, plus team points by rotation. Most printable stat sheets fail because they are shrunken college box scores, forty columns nobody can keep from a folding chair. The template below is built the other way: five tally families, one row per player, big cells. Copy it straight from this page, or request the print-ready PDF and the auto-totaling spreadsheet at the bottom. Definitions for every column live in our volleyball stats guide.

The Per-Player Chart
One row per player, tally as you go, total at set breaks. This is the whole front page:
Team: ______ Opponent: ______ Date: ______ Set: ___
| # | Player | Serve receive (3/2/1/0 each) | Serves in | Serve miss | Aces | Kills | Att. errors | Attempts | Digs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | example: Maya | 3,2,3,2 | 4 | 1 | 1 | 7 | |||
Three column notes. Serve receive is written as the actual grades, not tallies, because the sequence tells you more than the average (a passer who starts 3,3 and ends 1,1 is tiring or being targeted). Attempts include every swing, tip, and intentional down-ball, so attempts always equal kills plus errors plus zero attacks; that identity is your arithmetic check at the set break, and the three columns feed the hitting percentage calculator directly. Digs count playable saves only.
The Points-by-Rotation Row
The most underused chart in youth volleyball fits in one row. Write your six rotations across the page (by the setter's zone, matching your rotation sheet), and tally each rally's result under the rotation you were in when it was played:
| Rot 1 | Rot 2 | Rot 3 | Rot 4 | Rot 5 | Rot 6 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Points won | ||||||
| Points lost |
After two or three matches the leak announces itself: a rotation losing points two-to-one has a serve receive shape problem, a matchup problem, or a lineup-order problem. All three fixes are rotation-planning decisions, and the free rotation generator is where you test the fix before the next match, since it redraws all six rotations and their receive shapes the moment you reorder the lineup.
How to Keep This Sheet Alone, From the Bench
The sheet is designed around three rules learned from every parent who has ever been handed a clipboard. Tally only between rallies; nothing on this sheet needs to be recorded while the ball is live, and a scorer who watches the rally records it correctly afterward. Keep priorities in order; if the pace runs away from you, keep serve receive and serving first, attacking second, digs only when comfortable, because that priority order matches what the numbers are worth at the youth level. Total at set breaks, not at the end; per-set totals are where patterns live (a passer who fades in set three, a rotation that leaks only after halftime substitutions).
Pair it with the two other bench documents: the lineup sheet that goes to the officials, and the rotation sheet on your clipboard that tells you which rotation number to tally under. The three sheets agree because they derive from the same lineup.

When the Season Outgrows the Clipboard
The sheet tells you who passed 1.9 and which rotation leaks; it cannot tell you why, and it does not accumulate across a season without a night of spreadsheet work. That second half of the job is what Rizzler covers for volleyball teams. The player evaluation templates score the skills behind each column, serving consistency and placement, platform control, shot selection, on a 1-to-5 scale you can re-run mid-season, so the stat sheet's symptoms get a diagnosis. Rizzler Reps turns the diagnosis into assigned drill work players log at home. And the volleyball Game Manager carries your lineup, rotation plan, serve order, and playing-time tracking for match day, so the plan the stat sheet evaluates is the plan you actually ran.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should a volleyball stat sheet include?
Per player: serve receive grades on the 3-2-1 scale, serves in, misses and aces, kills, attack errors, total attempts, and digs. Per team: points won and lost by rotation. That covers every stat that changes youth coaching decisions on one page.
How do you keep volleyball stats by hand?
Tally between rallies only, in priority order: serve receive and serving first, attacking second, digs when comfortable. Total each column at set breaks and run the arithmetic check (attempts = kills + errors + zero attacks). One trained scorer keeps this entire sheet.
How do you calculate hitting percentage from a stat sheet?
Subtract attack errors from kills and divide by total attempts. A row reading 7 kills, 2 errors, 20 attempts is (7 - 2) / 20 = .250. Our hitting percentage guide has the calculator and what counts as good by level.
What is the points-by-rotation chart for?
It tallies each rally's winner under the rotation it was played in, which reveals the rotation quietly losing you sets. The fix is usually a serve receive shape or lineup-order change, tested in the rotation generator before the next match.
Is there a free printable volleyball stat sheet?
Yes. Copy the tables on this page freely, or request the print-ready PDF and auto-totaling XLSX pair by mentioning volleyball stat sheet in the contact form above; we email both at no cost.
