Volleyball Rotation Sheets: Print One, Fill It Out Right, Hand It to the Bench
A volleyball rotation sheet is a one-page chart showing where all six players stand in each of the six rotations, so the bench, the players, and the scorer can answer "where do I go?" without a huddle. What Belongs on a Rotation Sheet
A usable rotation sheet has six small court diagrams, one per rotation, each showing all six players by name or number in their zones, with the server marked. Good ones add three things: the libero pairing (who she replaces, shown in both spots), front-row versus back-row shading so players can see their attack rights at a glance, and the serve receive shape for that rotation.
That is different from a lineup sheet, which is the official form you hand the second referee with jersey numbers in service order. The lineup sheet is for the officials; the rotation sheet is for your team. You need both on game day, and they must agree with each other, which is the single most common paperwork mistake in youth volleyball.
A Worked Example: One Lineup, Six Pictures
Start from service order, because that is the one thing that never changes during a set. Here is our example team, the Ridgeview Hawks, running a 5-1:

From that single row of six names, the whole sheet follows mechanically. Rotation 1 places each player in the zone matching her slot: Maya in 1, Jordan in 2, Priya in 3, Tess in 4, Kayla in 5, Dre in 6. Every rotation after that moves everyone one zone clockwise. Write Alina, the libero, in parentheses behind whichever middle is in the back row, and circle the server in each diagram.
Filling in six diagrams by hand takes about ten minutes and one eraser. The rotation generator does it in seconds from the same six names, checks the result for overlap legality, and prints the sheet with the libero pairing already marked. Coaches who prefer paper can still print blank grids and fill them in; the point is that the sheet exists before warmups, not during them.
The Three Mistakes That Ruin Rotation Sheets
Building from court positions instead of service order. Coaches sketch where they want everyone standing in rotation 1, then can't derive rotations 2 through 6 because they never wrote down the slot order. Always start from the six-name service order; the pictures follow from it.
Forgetting the libero swap. If the sheet shows the middle in the back row without the libero notation, players improvise the swap on the floor and eventually miss a re-entry when the middle's spot reaches the front row. Mark both halves of the pairing on every diagram it affects.
A legal sheet drawn from an illegal plan. The sheet shows base positions, but your serve receive shapes push players around, and that is where alignment whistles come from. Check each rotation's receive pattern against the overlap rule before you print. The generator does this automatically; on paper you are the checker.
Printable Formats That Work
Three formats cover almost every bench. A single page with six court grids is the standard match sheet. A per-player card, one court per rotation with that player's spot highlighted, is the teaching version young teams tape inside water bottles and bags. A wall chart, one large court per rotation, works for practice gyms during rotation-teaching weeks. All three print from the same lineup in the generator, and each is worth regenerating whenever the starting six changes rather than hand-editing an old sheet.

From Sheet to Season
The rotation sheet is a game-day artifact, but the thinking behind it belongs in practice. Walk the six pictures on the court during a practice session the week before your first match, rotate the team through a full wheel twice, and the sheet becomes a reminder instead of a script.
