Rule Compliance — Never Violate a Rule You Didn't Know Existed
Rizzler checks every game planning decision against your league's rules in real time — pitch count limits, mandatory rest days, catcher-to-pitcher restrictions, and minimum play requirements. Set your governing body once and the rules are enforced automatically. You'll see a warning before you make a violation, not after a parent files a protest.

The Problem Rule Compliance Solves
Youth baseball rules aren't complicated for a single game. They're complicated across games. Your 12-year-old threw 58 pitches on Tuesday — does that mean he needs 2 rest days or 3? Your catcher caught four innings in game one of the doubleheader — can she pitch in game two? Your left fielder has only played two innings this season — are you in violation of the minimum play rule?
Most coaches have a general sense of the rules but don't track the specifics. The specifics are where forfeits, protests, and arm injuries happen.
Rizzler tracks the specifics for you.
What Rizzler Checks
| Rule | What Rizzler Does |
|---|---|
| Daily pitch count limits | Tracks each pitcher's count during games and alerts before they reach their age-specific limit. More about pitch counts → |
| Mandatory rest days | Calculates required rest days after each game based on pitches thrown. Blocks pitchers from being assigned before they're eligible. |
| Catcher-to-pitcher rule | Tracks catching innings and flags catchers who are ineligible to pitch (and pitchers who've thrown too many pitches to catch). |
| Minimum play requirements | Tracks playing time and flags players approaching or below the minimum innings required by your league. |
| Substitution rules | Enforces re-entry rules specific to your league format. |
| Tournament-specific rules | In tournament mode, tracks cumulative workloads and rest requirements across multiple games. |
How It Works
-
Set your governing body. When you create your team, select your league: Little League, USSSA, Perfect Game, Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken, or custom. Rizzler loads the correct rules.
-
Plan your game. As you assign pitchers, catchers, and fielders in the game planning view, Rizzler checks every assignment against the rules. Violations appear as warnings — orange for "approaching a limit" and red for "this violates a rule."
-
During the game. The iOS app continues checking in real time. As you count pitches, the app shows the current compliance status and alerts you before limits are reached.
-
After the game. Rizzler updates each player's compliance status for the next game. Pitchers with rest day requirements are marked as unavailable until their rest is complete. This data carries forward into future game plans and tournament plans.
Supported Leagues
| League | Rules Included |
|---|---|
| Little League International | Pitch count by age, tiered rest days, catcher-to-pitcher, minimum play |
| USSSA | Tournament-specific rules (varies by event) |
| Perfect Game | Event-specific rules |
| Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken | Innings-based limits and rest |
| Custom | Configure your own pitch counts, rest rules, and minimum play |
If you coach a travel team that plays in multiple leagues, you can set different rules for different teams — or configure custom rules that reflect the most restrictive combination.
Rule Compliance for Leagues
For Little League organizations, rule compliance matters at the league level, not just the team level. When all teams use Rizzler, the Organization Dashboard shows compliance status across every team in the league.
Commissioners can see which pitchers have reached their limits, which teams are close to minimum play violations, and where potential problems exist — before they become protests.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is rule compliance available on the Free plan?
Yes. Rule compliance checking is included on all plans. Rizzler checks your game plans against your league's rules whether you're on Free, Pro, or League & Club. Compare plans →
What happens if I accidentally exceed a pitch count?
If the pitch counter alerts you and you continue pitching, Rizzler still records the actual count. The data shows the violation occurred. Whether the opposing team protests depends on the game situation and your league's enforcement process.
Can I override a rule compliance warning?
You can acknowledge a warning and proceed, but Rizzler records that you did so. This is useful for edge cases where you believe the data is incorrect (e.g., a scorer entered wrong pitch counts in a prior game) — but it means the override is documented.
How do I know if the rules in Rizzler are up to date?
Rizzler's rule engine is updated before each season based on official publications from each governing body. For local amendments or unusual rules, you can configure custom rule sets.
Does it track across multiple teams?
If a player pitches for one team on Tuesday and another on Thursday (common in some rec league situations), you'd need to manually account for the Tuesday workload. Rizzler tracks within each team automatically.
Rule compliance is built into every part of Rizzler. See also: Pitch Counting → · Tournament Planning → · What is a Pitch Count? →
